GOOD PRICE FOR BEEF CATTLE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,- If the statement made in a paragraph in your last issue, that a local butcher intended Riving his customers come prime joints by way of a treat, is not positively libellous, it is, to s;-y the least, confoundedly insinuating. The natural inference is tli.it in your opinion it is the exception, and nut tho rulp, for the bntchor mentioned to kill prime cattle, nnd fallowing thin inference out your readers will stirnii.se that tho supply of antique cows is fulling short of the demand. You intended no doubt to pay a compliment when you wrote the paragraph, but iih printed it is decidedly aback-handed one. I have been taking more than a passing interest in the price of beef lately, and although the pricu paid for the cattle mentioned in your paragraph is a good one (£7 '61 per head), it is not more than the farmer should tret for prime beasts, now that the price of meat has been raised to the consumer. If the fanner is to benefit by the recent rise in meat, few will object to pay the increased prices now charged by the butchers. It is pleasing to see, whether the virtue arises from necessity or not, that one butcher at least, is paying a fair price for hie fat cattle. BravD ! Oassidy.— Youi's, &c, H. Bonk.
