Mkluouknk, August 21. —Since our last weekly report a marked change has occurred in tho wheat market, and the period of dullness which existed for noma weeks has Riven place, to one of considerable activity. The f.ict that millers, both in town and country, held small stocks has been previously referred t'>, and though efforts have been made to stave off buying, atill the necessities of the situation could not be avoided. The tiisi. move occurred on receipt of cable messages from London reporting a considerables advance and a soinev hat excited mirkot. This news seems to have determined the trade that the time was coma to purchase, and close on 50,000 b;iga changed hands to country and town buyers, prices advancing to an equivalent of iss Id., Melbourne. The movement in the Europe in markets has be.on caused by the failure of [lie rye crop in Russia, and particularly in Germany, and as this grain supplies the ordinary bread fool of both countries, a demand at once set in for wheat to supply its pliicc. Considerable excitement was reported in bhn various markets, but. asi we write, p quieter feeling oxists. The imnediito outlook, however, points to a firm market, and witli an unwnrd tendency of prices as thn European winter approaches. One authority looks fo- a fiOs market before Christmas Although London prices will not directly iiinV>m:j our niirkct at the moment, sh'ppinsr being over, it however will Invo n most i.tiportint heiring on the now crop, which shouM return farmers handsome profits.
