Accident.—On Wednesday last a man named William Viccars met with a serial's accident at Maungatautari. \Vhil:t oncaged at his work (bnshfalling) a tree fell and struck him on the thigh, whorabv he was violently thrown and crushed against a log, causing, it is feared, a somewhat serious injury to his spina His mates at once i:ushed to the rescue, and reliaved the sufferer from his perilous position as quickly as possible, but through having no suitable vehicle in which to remove him, he was permitted to remain at his camp without such attention as his case demauded. On Friday, Mr Kay of Orakau, hearing of tho occurrence, kindly sent up his trap, and the. same afternoon conveyed the injured man to Kiliikihi, where he remained for the night. Constable Lowther, on Saturday m irnine, finding the man to bo in an utterly helpless condition, wisely decided to remove him to the Hamilton Hospita., where ho now lies. In accordance with a request received trom the Colonial Secretary, a public meeting was (in pursuance of notice Riven in Thk Waikato Ti.mks. of 18th inst.), hold at the town Board odica 011 SatnrJay last. Judging from tho poor attendance, it i« quite evident that but little interest was taken in the matter. On tho motion of Mr Monerief, seconded by Mr Clark, Mr Dinneen was appointed chairman. After the letter or request, and the notice convening the meeting (both above referred to 1 , had been road, Mr Jas, Farrell proposed and Mr McKinder seconded, that Honry Monerief, .lames Clark, and M. I). Dinneen be elected to fill the vacancies, and that the appointments bo loconimonded-to the Governor, There being 110 amendment, tho motion was carried unanimously. A vnt-j of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
