DROWNING ACCIDENT.
[IIY THLKURAI'H —OWN COIMESI'OSnENT.I Auckland, Last Night. PauticULAKS regarding tho drowning of J. Hamilton at Port Charlos shows that it was a somewhat singular occurrence. Hamilton aud his mato, Thomas Gillebrand, were gum-digging in the vicinity of Sandy Bay on the di.y in question, when they started to march with provisions alone tho coast from Sandy Bay to Stone Bay. Gillebrand stopped to got a drink, his mate meanwhile eoing on ahead. Presently Gillebrand tried to catch his mate, but could find no sign of liiui, and upon arriving at the cunp learned that Hamilton had not arrived. As the weather was very rough he jndgod that Hamilton must havo fallen off thn rocks and been drowned. Next morning Gillebrand went back with a snatch party and found his mato's dead body lying on the beach. Constable Donovan went up and arranged for the funeral, but. owing to the distance from Coromandol an inquest was not held.
