Sheepskins brought improved values; prices forfrosh skins were from 4s to 7 s ld;driod skins,2s to 5s 3d each; broken wool, 4.|d to GJd the lb. At the country cattle Bales held, respectively at Pokano and Drury, prices for nil kinds of cattle, with the exception of dairy stock, showed a considerable advance over last month's market, especially for young cattle, nix months' old calves, mixed sexes, bringing up to 30s each ; dairy cows, near Calvin?, £;} to £5 .is each. At tho Remuera Yards, dairy cattle, in full numbers, kept tlieir late values. Store cattle were in brisk enquiry ; 240 yarded, and all classes in demand. Grown steers averaged £4 7-s Gd ; two-year-old steers, £3 ; dry cows 35s to 50a. Fat calves, abundant, 90 Bold ; late values were fully substained. Fat cattle, in full numbers ; 275 sold ; prices slightly lower than last week, and ranged from 17s to 19s tho 1001b. Sheep,in average supply ; 710 sold ; scarcely kept last week's values, and were lower about Is each. Wethers ranged from 15s to 20s 3d. Pigs, numerous ; generally of small sizo ; were at late values. Mkhhuh Hunter and Nolan's Weekly Rkport.—Horse teed, grain, seeds, etc. : Supplies have been ample and a continuous domund has existed with little or no alteration in value, We quote: Feod oats, Is 6d to 2s 2d oer bushel; maize, 2s 8d to 2s lOd ; bran, £4 5s to £4 10s per ton ; chaff, £2 10s to £2 15s per ton. Horses; A demand has existed, but a limited number were brought forward, and values had an upward tendency. There remains a demand for strong active horses suitable for spring-cart or plough. At the auction sale at the Durham Yards on Friday, an average number were brought under the hammer and found purchasers. We quote : Hacks, £4 10s to £9 15s; light harness, £5 to £11 15s; medium draught, £7 10s to £11 ; unbroken colts, medium draught, £7 10s to £12 15s. Wool, hides, skins, tallow, etc.: Tho demand for stout ox hides and large well Heeced skins lias beon brisk, and for other descriptions iteady. The supply has been above the average. We quote : Extra stout ox hides, np to 5d per lb; stout ox, 4d to 4;Jd ; medium, 3d to 3fd ; store and cow, ljjd to per lb ; calf skins, 3Jd to s£d ; sheepskins, picked, butchers, 8s to 8s Gd each ; ordinary, 3s 8d to Us lid ; lamb skins, Is eacli; sheepskins, country, Is to (is 3d ; long wool in bags, Gi/d to 7.\ ! d ; tallow 13s to 18s fid per cwt; bones, £110s to £115s per ton. Cattle : Stores have commenced to come forward, and there remains an almost unlimited demand at. pricos most favourable to tho sellors. Fat and dairy stock, in average numbers, were in good demand, prices ruling for all descriptions the previous weak wero fully maintained. The Nowinarket Yards on Tuesday were fairly well filled with all descriptions, which met with good competition throughout the sale. Wo quote : Steer, £1 to £15s each ; heifer calves, His to £1 each ; yearling steers, £1 to £110s ; 18 months to two-year-old steers, £115s to £2 15s ; gro-vn steers, £3 10s to £5; dry cows, £1 10s to £2 12s Gd ; beef, 18s to 2ls per 1001b. AUCKLAND, Last Night.—Best dairy butter, Is 3d ; second quality, 9d ; third quality, 8d per lb wholesale. Eggs are 7d per dozen wholesale, and 9d per dozen retail. CHRISTCIIURCH LIVE STOCK MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report as under Christchurch, August 14.— Fat sheep: A very heavy supply, which included Beveral lines of good freezers and a considerable number of Merino wethers. For priino fat Bheep, values of the previous week were fully maintained, but the full entry naturally caused some weakness and much irregularity in the sale of second rate quality. liest crossbred wethers mado from 19s to 245, light weights 18s to 19s, Merino wethers, 12s to 19s 3d for first rate quality, and from 9s to lis (id for indifferent sorts.—Store sheep: The ent.-y was larger than that of the previous week, and an improving demand enabled several lines to be sold. Mixed crossbreeds were quitted at 12s to 15s, hoggets at 10s to 13s Gd, and crossbred ewes, in lamb, 10s Gd to 15s Gd.— Fat lambs : At this time of tho year, fat lambs are, of course, a decided novelty, and the few yarded attracted much attention. They sold at 13s to 15s.—Fat cattle : An average entry numerically, but somewhat mixed as regards quality. Prime beef was fairly well competed for up to 20s per lOOiti, but tho values obtainable for other descriptions vary between 14s and 17* 6d.—Store cattle: An entry of about fpventy miserable-looking beasts was placed before a few buyers. One or two lots changed hands at very low rates, and the business done does not call for comment. In one or two instances only was any business done in the dairy stock. GRASS SEEDS. London, July 11.—Messrs James Carter and Co., report. Values of all kinds *f Clover and Grass seeds continue firm. Rape ia dearer, and both Swede and Turnips saeds of all kinds command advanced prices. ANTWERP WOOL S VLES. Antwerp, August 20.—Tho wool sales open on Ist Sept. Among the b les c talogued are 9000 of the River Plate, and a mall consignment from Australia.
