MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE AT HUNTLY
(liV TKLKGBAI'H.—OWN CORRBSPO.S'DBN'T.) IIOSTLY, List Night. A TOUNO girl named Lily Carter, ai?ed 17, a rolative of Mrs M. Fiiar, of Huntly, mysteiiously disappeared trom the rosidence of Mr Friar about snven o'clock p.m. on Saturday. She had boon Rtaying there for the last two months, and on tho evening in question left tho hou-o without her hat and wearing a pair of slipper*, and has not boon heard of since. A pearch was made by Constable White, Mr Friar, and snveral neighbours until three o'clock on Sunday morning. Enquiries were alHo made at the houses of the residents where tho cirl was known, and the banks of the Waikato river were searched during tho whole of Sunday. A steam launch and several boats and cauoes wero engacred dragging the river for a considerable distance. Horsemen were despatched along the Great South Road in each direction, but up to the present no light has been thrown on the unfortunate occurrence. Mr Friar's allotment being fonced in front of the river, and water being supplied to the house by moans of a pump, makes it difficult to account for tho girl having fallen in accidentally.
