Cablegrams to hand report that the English market has an upward tendency.and the American advancing. The local markot as yet displays no new featuro, millers in tho meantime holding off, satisfied with present stocks ; but those are only to a very moderate extent. ho that with an inprovement in tho tone of tlio market at Home, tho few who still hold here may rest satisfied that the time is not very far distant when all available lines will bo in request ; indeed, tho indication from other quarters would seom tn tend to promote a rise in value.—Oats : The demand during the past week has not been very brisk ; still, a moderate amount of business has bean done, both for local consumption and export. On the whole, howover, the market is not sj lively as could be wished. There are very few now arriving into store, and as holders are unwilling to accopt lower prices for those on hand, jiiirchasors forimmediato requirements have ht-ill to |iay about equal to late quotations ; but to effect sales olf trucks, or to arrive, lower jiricos would of necessity have to be accepted.—Potatoos : There is a little or no in.provument to note'in these ; tho demand for Southern continues depressed, prime Northern only being in demand. We quote the latter 45s to 48s, and the former 80s to ■IDs jier ton, sticks weighed in.—Dairy Produce.—The siijiply of prime salt butter is now dwindling down to very small projiortions, 7Ad to 8d being readily obtained. Medium quality is more plentiful and hard to quit. Cheese is also gettiiiu lower in •.itck, but very little change in values.
