SHIPPING CHARGES ON FRUIT.
Thk following circular letter has been issued by the manoßm- of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Auckland. As freights and charges absorb so largo a proportion of tho. proceeds of the sale of fruit sent out of the colony, wo would urge fruit-growers to reply without delay in the direction indicated:— The question of endeavouring to get tho Shipping Companies to reduco the rate of freight on fruit, and arrange for tho payment of freight on sumo in London, is a fit subject to bring before the Chamber of Commerce, and if you think well of this proposal, and will write to this efFect at once to the writer, he will be pleased to move in the matter in the Chamber. The quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce will be held in a few days, and the sooner the subject can he brought under discussion the better. To strengthen our hands you might indicate about what quantity of fruit you and your neighbours think you can ship during the ensuing year. —Yours faithfully, W.u.tkh F. Lawhv, manager.
