They were aware he accepted the ollicewith reluctance and only at tho unanimous wish of those present at tho annual meeting ; but having taken the position he should endeavour to give satisfaction, and with tho help of tho executive committee who wp.ro all goud workers—especially the late chairman—he trusted the forthcoming year's business would be conducted in a manner that would add to the credit of tho club, when his term of office expired. The club had undoubtedly done good for two Bills were now before the House of R'-.presentilives touching on matters to which the club had directed attention, viz., the adulteration of manures and the liability of auctioiisers and commission agents. This should encourage them to apply for other reforms in connection with railway charges, and the selling of cattle to bnlcheis by weight. At tho present tho butchers retailed by weight but bought by guess, which was not satisfactory to the farmer. He also thought ,h»ep aud lambs should be slaughtered m Waikato for export; for lambs that were forwarded to Auckland to be killed were sure to bo blemished and consequently deteriorated in value. He mentioned several other matters that required attention, ami again thanking the members, resumed his seat. Auction kick's. Bill.—The Hon. The Council will be glad of an opinion from a purely farmer's point of view.— Lho chairman thought it ,i matter that required considerati )O.—Mr Forrest said it had already been discussed when there appeared to be a diversity of opinion on the matter, nud it was decided to let farmers follow their own inclination regarding it. — Iho matter was discussed and it was finally unanimously resolved to inform the Council that tho club wero not in favour of poison being used. • Am.LTKitATioN or Mantuks Lill.-A copy of tho Bill introduced in tho House by Mr MelCenzie on the above matter had boon forwarded to tho club. It was road by the secretaiy.-The Chairman said the committee wore of opinion that all guanos should bo included in it, and had tolegra;ilißd to that effect.—Thuir action was endor.sud.-Tho Bill is very stringent, and, if passed in its present form will certainly enable fanners to know what they sire pur'''xicw' Mkmukhs.— Tho following wore elected ine.inbe.rs of the club : Messrs !)r.
