FLOODS IN VICTORIA.
(BV KLKCTUIO TKLKCHAHI.— CIU'YIiKUfT.] MnU'.oniNi'., July 13. All riverside labour was stopped this morning, owing to the Hoods. Factories Oil the south side were submerged, and the course of the Yarra presents a scene of desolation for miles. Terrace after terrace of houses on the south side in Toorak and further eastward are completely submerged. Whitney's cartridge factory Imssuffered severely. The floods are the most severe since 1802. The British India Company's steamer Buneoora is ashore close to where the Joseph Scammell was lost. She is in a dangerous position, but the crew are safe. July 14. Nearly two thousand of the residents of South Richmond have been driven from their homes by floods in that district. The whole of the streets are under water, and a large number of houses in the low lying portions are completely submerged. Although the water is falling there are still many houses that are inundated to the extent of 10 to 15 feet. The State schools, churehcs, and various public halls have been placed at the disposal of those rendered homeless. So great was the excitement in town yesterday that business was almost entirely suspended. A schooner, name unknown, was seen to disappear off Sorrento, 011 the southeast coast of Port Philip Bay, and it is believed she is lost with all hands. A fireman belonging to the dredge attempted to oomo ashore in a dingy, and when near Princes Bridge it cap and he was drowned. Thousands of people witnessed the accident, but wore powerless to help the unfortunate man. Tugs have gone to the assistance of the Calcutta steamer Buneoora, which is ashore near Cape Otway. Later. The floods are subsiding. A large relief fund is being started for the benefit
