The whole of the streets are under water, and a large number of houses in the low lying portions are completely submerged. Although the water is falling there are still many houses that are inundated to the extent of 10 to 15 feet. The State schools, churehcs, and various public halls have been placed at the disposal of those rendered homeless. So great was the excitement in town yesterday that business was almost entirely suspended. A schooner, name unknown, was seen to disappear off Sorrento, 011 the southeast coast of Port Philip Bay, and it is believed she is lost with all hands. A fireman belonging to the dredge attempted to oomo ashore in a dingy, and when near Princes Bridge it cap and he was drowned.
