HAMILTON" V. I'ATKIIAXdI. Thk return feotball match between the above clubs was played at Puteranei in one of Mr Germann's padducks on Saturday, when Hamilton were again victorious, winning by two points (two tries) to nil. Tho following composed the teams :— Hamilton (14 men): Hammond, full back; Wright and Goble, three-quarters ; Hume and Scott, halves; Peacock, Qiiiiin, Williamson, Snaithe, Jolly, Cassidy, Gillett, Bright, and Gribale, forwards. Paterangi: Corboy, full back ; Ratima, IJtackott, and Parata, three-quarters; F. Bowdou (capCain), C. Bowden,andOruicks!iaul-« halves; Aubin, Barker, Cruickshank, Tawliia, May, Macky, Livingstone, and Ryburn, for wardi. Messrs R. .1. Gwynne and W. Reid umpired for Hamilton and Paterangi respectively, and gave general satisfaction. Mr J. Gavin B. Gilford acted as referee, but did not give satisfaction to either players or spectators, his rulings being given too slowly, and were too often undecided. It is not usual for the refereo to rush about the field shouting: "Well played. So-and-so," "Follow up, now," "Good kick," etc. Play commenced by Ryburn kicking off for Paterangi, and by n good follow up of the forwards the ball was taken up to the Hamilton full-back, and Hammond returned into touch. .From the throw in tho Hwnilton forwards took the ball well up into the centre of tho field, when Ratima got the ball and mnda a good run, being grassed by Hume. .To!lv then took the louther into Paterangi's L' 3. Shortly afterwards Hamilton were awarded a free kick, but Hammond failed to place a goal. Binvden kicked ont, and Wright getting the ball made a good run till thrown out of bounds. From the throw out tho bill was dribbled to Paterangi's line, whero Blackott stopped the rush by a good kick. From this out the play was of a very give-and-tako nature, tho ball being repeatedly taken from one end of the field to the other, until shortly bofore the end of the first spell, Hume getting possession of the ball, by a good dodgy run, scored a try* Hammond took the kick, but failed to convert. Bowden kicked out. Aftor some good passing between Goble and Hume, tho ball was taken well up into Pateratjgi's ground. Corboy made a good run, and was collared by Hume. The spell shortly afterwards ended. Hamilton, one point ; Paterangi, nil. Peacock opened the second spell by kicking nil' for Hamilton, and the forwards following well up, Paterangi saved. Corboy kicked out, and by a fast run of tho Paterangi forwards headed by Bowden the ball was taken well up to Hamilton's territory, wlii'ii I tauiinond kicked into touch. Krom the throw-in Ratima obtained the hall and made :i splendid run, being brought down by Williamson. Shortly after .Sett got a mark just outside Paterangi's '3ii, anil, though ho made a tf"od attempt, failed to score. From the kiek»iut the Patorangi forwards rushed the ball well up to Hamilton's lino, and a touch-iii-go.il was claimed but not allow*.). A scrum wan formed, and Qiiinii by a grand piece of foot wrrk managed to clear Hamilton's line. The play then centiod in midliold till by a rush of Hamilton forwards, Sinitho beincr conspicuous, the ball was taken ovur Paterangi's line, where Gillett falling on the ball scored tho second try for Hamilton. Peacock took the kick at goal, a difficult one, but did not increase the score, although tho attempt was ;v good one. Tho play was in Paterangi's 2?) for the remainder of the spell, tlio game ending Hamilton two puints, Paterangi nil.
