TE AWAMUTU MUSICAL SOCIETY

The animal meeting of this flourishing body was hold last Wednesday evening, in the I'ublic Hall. There was a Rood attendance of members, and Mr Burgess was voted to the chair. The minutes of tho last meeting were road and confirmed, aud then the secretary read the annual report and balance-sheet, which showed Ilia society to bo in a sound condition. The regular attendance at weekly practices, though not so large as formerly, is still satisfactory and encouraging to their painstaking conductor, and all who have the Wblfare of the society at heart. The several entertainments given during the past year resulted very satisfactorily ti. the society. The balanoe-sheet for the twelve mouths, after paying part of tho purchase money of a pian ■, paying rent of hall for practices, purchasiug a large amount uf music, etc., showed a credit balauce ot i'l, with a small liability still owiug ou the piauo. The report and balance-sheet wero adopted, aud the election of otEcers for the coming year was than proceeded with. Mr Jamos Cotterill as President, and Messrs \V. Taylor aud J. H. Maudenoas vice-Presidents wera unauiiuously re-elected. Messrs Luug, J. Taylor, and D. G. Cruickshank were elected as the working committee. Sir Burgess was re-elected conductor, and Mr Vause secretary. The high state of efficiency that the society ia now in is almost wholly due to the constant care and attention giveu to tho affairs of the society by tho two latter gentleman. A unanimous vote of thanks to the o(Hears for the past season concluded the business.
