A Jlinni.K-ACKIi man named Cibson Turton, furniurty of Dunediu where he was a partner 111 a firm of solicitors, was found dead this morning in a yard attachod to the Viol.nri.in Tl'istaurant. Deceased lived in a shed near by, and a man who occupied it with him states that he last saw Turton l ist night, but ho paid lie attontion to his lieing away all night, as lie was in the habit of doing so, Deceased's wife and family resido at Unnedin, and Turton lias lately been reduced in circumstances, but it is believed that his lifo is insured for LTiOO. Au inquest is to be held to ascertain the cause of death. While Mr Vincent P.yke was mounting his hotel steps last niprlit he tripped and fell, receiving ralhev sevore injuries about tho head and face Harry Noble, of Fielding, cut his throat in a watorcloset at Halcrunbo. It is unlikely that he will recover. Four Knni, a Chinese uierch:mt, was to-day fined UIOO and co.its for importing thirteen packages us steel wine which were discovered Lo be Chinese spirits. Defendant gave notice of appeal.
