LABOUR CONFERENCE.
J (BV TKLKGIUPH—I'UESS ASSOCIATION.) | WELLINGTON', Last Xigllt. A'f thorecsnt Labour Conference a federating .scheme, applicable to the Trade and Labour Council of New Zealand, was drafted. Its object is to form a deliberative and representative body possessed of special knowledge of matters coining under its cosnizance, and which, by its nggregation of power, can enforce the carrying out of any legitimate necessary reforms. An insurance scheme was suggested on the following basis :—Suppose that 4000 unions ists agree to subscribe to the proposed in--3 surance fund, a sum of fclOO, less per r cent, for working expenses, could be paid • at death to the widow or next of kin by " paying one levy of sixpence per member for 3 each case of death. Other suggestions ofs fcred by the Conference were : An accident 0 scheme, building scheme, and a co-opera-'i tive store scheme. These matters have P been under tho consideration of the local 11 Trades Council, but no decision was come to. An exhaustive report of the Wellington delegates to the Labour Conference was read at the Trades Council and adopted.
