LaDour and Independent. ... ... IS At the election for Canterbury (four seats), the Hon. J. H. Carruthars, who held the position of Minister for Public Instruction in the Parkes Government, whs returned at the head of the poll, and had a majority of nearly 3000 over the three successful Labour candidates. Owing to a mutilation in last night's telegram, the result of yesterday's elections was in part wrongly stated. Mr Dibfos, leader of the Opposition, is not yet returned, but is a candidate in another electorate, the polling for which is fixed for June "22nd. Amongst other prominent men rejected are .Mr O'Connor (Postmaster-General) ami Mr Abigail. Mr Speaker Abbott Ims been returned unopposed. ,lune V.
