SVUNKV, JutleS ■ A thi.kciiam received this afternoon from Wreck hack states tliat n quantity ot wreckage, including a ship's wheel and oars marked " Taratntuig," lias been washed ashore. From this it is believed that the vessel, which was a screw stcaiiK rof I'JSI tons, has foundered during t!;e heavy gales which have prevailed oil" the coast during the last few (lays. The Taramiing was commanded by .John Page, with whom was associated I'atteison as chief officer, and Scott as second officer. In the enuine room were Oee, chief engineer : McKenzie second ; and Robinson, third. The names of the crew art! Scott, Humphries, Carson, Tipper, Cairns, Nesh, Siddle, Stevenson, • lohiiPon, Restock, Cillespic, Mel'arland, Hume, Anderson, Pollock, and Conne. The wca'ber is still boisterous, and there is no sign of its clearing up. The only passenger on board the illfated steamer Taratnung ivai a Miss Moss who was returning to Melbourne owing to the death of her father. June 9. A terrilic easterly gale is blowing, and a fearful sea is running along the so ist. Five coasters lmvn been driven ashore —the schooner Bertha, ketches Sea Davis, and Jennie Sinclair at Trial Bay, and the schooner Venus at Bellinger Heads. The crew of the Venus were seen clinging to the ratlings of the wrecked vessel, and the pilot crew gallantly put off from the shore in an endeavour to effect their rescue. They were unable, however, to reach the vessel, and returned to the beach. Shortly afterwards they made a second attempt to get alongside the schooner. A telegram received from Bellinger Heads late this evening states that the crew of the Venus have been brought ashore in safety, but it is not known whether their rescue was due to the second essay of the pilot boat proving successful. No definite information is yet to hand regarding the crows of the other vessels, but from the nature of Trial Bay it is anticipated that the men have escaped with their lives. Cabin fittings which have been identified as those belonging to the steamer Taranmng have been washed ashore. June 10. The heavy weather appears to be passing towards New Zealand. In the second attempt, the pilot crew were successful in rescuing the crew of the schooner Venus.
