TE AWAMUTU MUSICAL SOCIETY.
Chk Ta Awamutu Musical Society cave their second performance of "Trial by Jury," at the Public Kail on Wednesday evening last. The weather, unfortunately, was very bad, being very cold and wet, and consequently the attendance was very meagre, but tho committee decided not to disappoint the few who had ventured out m such weather, and the performance was Bonn through with. The first part of the programme opened with an overture, rendered in their usual first-class style by Miss Maudeno (piano) aud Messrs Burgess and Wall (violins). (J lee, "Awake -.Bolian Lyre," company l . This was followed bv a serio-comic item " I do it," by Mr V ause. Whether it was the cold dump weather, or the array of " empty benches," or both, that damped this gentleman's spirits I do not know, but he was not in his usual good from, Mis.) Layne and Messrs Bureess and Fry sang tho glee "Fair Celia," their voices blending splendidly, and the music was done good justice to. Mrs Burgess next sang "The Old Ciemona," accompanied by piano and violins. This is a beautiful song and was nicely sung; it was just suited to Mrs Burgess' voice, and I hope to hear it repeated by this lady upon some future occasion. The glee "Their Song so Sweet and Clear," was well rendered by the full company, which brought the first part of the entertainment to a closo. After a short interval, " Trial by Jury " was performed, and it is only necessary to say that tho acting, dresses, by-play, stage effects, &c., were fully up to the previous performance, and those present heartily enjoyed the fun of the piece. Tho " National Anthem" brought the evening's amu-einent to a clobt.
