Brown) to recover a penalty of AloO for having a seat and acted as a inetnber of the Licensing Committee, it being alleged that under clause 11 of the Act he is disqualified by holding a paid ollicc under the City Council. It is undeistood that the taxation scheme of the (ioveniment includes a proposal for imposing a small tax upon the totalisator investments. Mr Buiel;, M.If.K. for Waipau, will second the Address-in-Replv. The 11.M.5. Avawa left the Cape for Wellington, via llobart. op Saturday. Mr K. C. llainerton, l'ublic Trust Comuiissioner, has received three months' leave of absence. A number of members are already in town, and about twenty seats have been marked off. Amongst those here is the Hon. Wigley, who, despite the alleged forfeiture of his seat, will, it is understood, claim the right to resume it on the ground that- the January session was not really a session.
