Uoyai. Hotf.i,—A. Sehultze.— I The polico report on this hotel was not favourable, stating that the chaiacter of the persons frequenting it were both pood and bad. The following additional report was handed pi by Constable Murray Since the last annual meeting, this h.itei has been rebuilt. The work appears to have been done in a mi-.it creditable manner, and the hotel now presents a very neat and well-finished appearance. The house i.s sulliciently furnished, the furniture being all new. The rooms throughout have been laid with linoleum and carpets, and tho hotel is now altogether well adapted to the requirements of the trade. I regret, however, to have to report t hat the house has nut been conducted in a satisfactory manner. Complaints have been made to the police by married women about their husbands tieing kept in the house drinking after hours and on Sundays. Tho licensee has boen cautioned in this respect by the polico, and ha has promised that thero shall bo no further cause for any complaints."—Mr Hay appeared for the applicant.—lnspector ICmerson represented the police, and said that the report was a frivolous one, and the police should have had a conviction if tlio charges contained in the report were true. He would ask to withdraw Constable Murray's repoit.—'The Chairman 83id that he bad bad tlio same complaints made to him about this hotel, and lie was not in favour of withdrawing the report made by Constable Murray.— Constable I3eniin.ni said that he had been stationed in Hamilton for a month, and he had no complaint to make with reference to this house.—Mr Hay urged that the case bp gonj on with, and that the application should be granted. —The Clerk, at the request of tho cnininit';oo, read t.ie last police report with reference to this house, which, however, only dealt with the noncomplelion of the building.—Mr H. M. Salmon moved—"That, in view of the unsatisfactory report with reference to the 1 loyal Hotel, the hearing of the application for a renewal of the license be adjourned for a fortnight so as to allow of Constable Murray being present."—Seconded by Mr Sandes, and carried. New Zealand Win'E License. — Tho application of John Knox for a renewal of his wine license was granted. The Court then adjourned till 10 30 a.m. on the 20th inst. XE AAVAMUXtJ. The annual meeting of the llangiaohia, Licensing Committee was held at tho Court House, To Awamutu, on Saturday (ith inst. Present: Messrs C.J. Storey, \V. Taylor and 11. Cunningham. Owing to the absence of Mr Walton, Mr C. J. Storey was appointed chairman of the meeting. | Commercial Hotel. —Mr Gresham, who 1 appeared for Mr IJ.1 J . Lynch, made an ap- . plication on his behalf for grant of a . certificate authorising the issuo of a publican's license in respect of this hotel. The police report being favourable, the application was granted. As half-a-dozen rope ladders were required, tho Bench directed Mr Lynch to obtain tho same and affix where necessary. Tb Awamutu Hotel.— Application by I Mr H. Lewis for renewal of his license. An objection to such renewal was made by Mr Ripley, but as tho grounds were merely J of a personal character, the Bench declined to take any notice thereof, and as the polico report was favourable, granted the ! application. A lope ladder was directed ; to be affixed to one of the rooms.
