TE AROHA FLAX JAMMERS'BALL.
The most successful ball of the season was given by the flax hands at the Town Hall on Tuesday night last, between JO and 50 couples being present. The hall was tastefully decorated with nikau palms, ferns, etc., the walls being covered with green and bunting and the banner "Excelsior " found a place over tho entrance. Dancing commenced at 8 p.m., Mr Innes actinsr as a most efficient M.C. The first half of the programme was got through with groat enjoyment, thon came an interval for the all important supper; some good fun was had at the expense of the gentlemen arranging and laying the tables etc., which helped to onlivon proceedings ; two young ladies were prevailed upon to take tho respective heads and tea urns. The ladies were seated first and attended to with real old gallantry, and after tho creature comforts had been done ample justice to by all present, our gallant "jams" cloared away the debris, crockery ware, forms, tables etc., manipulated the brooms, fresh greased the floor, when dancing was again resumed with renowad vigour to the end of the programme, or in other words, till tha small hours of the morning. Refreshments of every description wore amply provided, the gentlemen being most assiduous in their attentions to tho fair sox. Tho music was all that could bo desired ; piano, Mr A. Everitt; violin, Mr J. Cra : g ; cornet, Mr T. Smith. There were a number of pretty dresses, white prevailing, relieved in some cases by a touch of colour, Miss Edwards, in a rich dross of black lace, with cardinal satin ribbons, being the acknowledged belle.
