BRITISH AND FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY.

Owisr; to a number of unforeseen circumstances which prevented many from attending, the meeting of the Cambridge branch of the above society, it was not so successful as in former years. The meeting was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, the Veil. Archdeacon Willis presiding. There were also upon the platform the Revs. If. .T. R ibjohtis, Dr. Hooper, C. H. Garland, and Mr Thus. Wells. Devotional exercises woro indulged in at the opening and closing ; Miss Archer playing the accompaniments to the hymns upon an American organ kindly lent by Mr Brooks. Apologies for non-attandance were received from Mr F. J. Brooks (treasurer), Mr Priestly, (secretary), Rev. W. Evans, and tho captain of the Salvation Army. In the absence of the Treasurer, Mr Thos. Wells road tho balance sheet for the period between January 18th, 188!) and May 18th, 18111. During that time the sales had amounted to £4 10s, and £10 l!ls!)d had been remitted to the parent Society in London. After all liabilities had been liquidated there remained a credit balance of £!) 1 Is Id, which is a few shillings less than at the beginning of 188!). Dr. Hooper spoke of the operations of the Society in India, and referred to the gigantic increase of the sale of bibles in that country. The Rev. Mr Robjohns exhorted the people of Cambridge to be more zealous in pushing the work of the Society. He gave a splendid address, many considered it the best he has ever given in Cambridee ; and at its conclusion the following officers were appointed : President, Archdeacon Willis; Treasurer, Mr I'. J. Brooks; Secretary, Mr J. N. Priestley; Committee; Revs. C. H. Garland, W. Evans, Dr. Hooper, Messrs T. Wells, J. Fisher, J. Gane, and tho Captain of the Salvation Army.
