A HUMOUn was current to-day that Mr James Thomson, of Ricklands, Epsom, had purchased the Pah estate residence, the original tender to build which was £10,000 nod £2000, added for extras. No salo of the residence lias yet. boon completed, but Mr Thomson has acquired thn whole of the furniture from Messrs Williamson Bros. Their father (Hon. James Williamson) eelccted it in London, and ic cust about fill.OOO.
The Education Board election resulted in Mr Buekhnrst, of Wljiingnrei, being electe'L with a total of 1)3 votes ; Mr Meame second, with 3S votes ; Mr Peaeoeke (who had retired) third, with 20 vote:;; and Mr Biirtun last, with l(i votes.
Mr Wilson, of JJrcken Hill fame, has bought the Pah estate a few inilus from Auckland, and he is going in for blood stock breeding. The residence and furniture which are worth many thousands of pounds were to have been submitted to auction next week, but have been with diawn.
The census returns shows an increase of 1,07-1 in population in the Maniikau County, and a decicase of l,."jO'J in the Wailemata County.
