(liV TELKGKAFIt—OWN COIIIIKSMI'OSnKNT.) Te Ahoha, Friday. Tub Hon. Kicliard Soddon, Minister of Mines arrived in To Aroha from Paeroa on Thursday morning. Soon after his arrival he was met by several deputations, the principal subjects brought under the Ministers notice were the extension of the railway to Paeroa, that a sum of £8000 be placed upon the estimates to be ev.pe.ndid on the Thames-To Aloha road, and that a Recreation Reserve, which would be suitatitile for a racecourse bo exchanged for another one. At noon, Mr Soddon, Mr I tamer, his private secretaty, and Colonel Kraser drove out tu Waiornngoniai, and during the evening the Minister was escorted over the Hot Springs Reserve by tho chairman of the Domain Board who pointed out what additional improvements were required which Mr SaJdon agreed to attend to. In the cmr.se of the evening several private deputations waited on the .Minister At present there is nothing definitely settled by the Government as to who will be the Gnvernmbnt candidate that will be put forward to contest the Te Aroha seat. Mr Seddon would like to see Col. Fraser in, yet, he says, the Government will not try to force any one on the electors, and the decisLin whom they will run will be arrived at after Mr Sbddon's return to Wellington. Auckland, List Night. Mr Seddon arrived by train this afternoon from Te Aroha. Arrangements had been made to delay tho train fifteen minutes at Hnntly to receive a deputation of miners, but as tho deputation had not put in an appearance in ten minutes after the arrival of the train the journey was again resumed. Soon after his arrival in Auckland Mr Seddon met the .iliieers commanding tho volunteer companies to discuss defence matters. The meeting was held in the Customs Buildings and several schemes for the promoting and assisting the voluntoi-r movement were propounded and fully discussed. Mr Seddon leaves for Puhipnhi on Monday, and after visiting the mines there he will ride back to Whangarei, and thence to Auckland and Wellington via Uotnrun, passing through Hamilton about Saturday, May Kith. The Minister intends to thoroughly inspect the ltotorua railway route, as there will bo a proposal put forward when the House meet-- to place 11 Mini upon the estimates to complete this Hue to Rolurua.
