CRICKET.

Ohacpo and Taupiri met at Sydney Square Hamilton, on Saturday the 25th., for the first tiiuo since the clubs have been in existence, the result being an easy victory for Taupiri by an innings and 30 runs. The scores were, for Ohaupo, 14 and 10, and for Taupiri 34. The ground was in such a wretched condition that big scores were out of the question. It seems a great pity that in such a central place as Hamilton no one should take sufficient interest to lieep the ground in decent order, and surely it would be possible for it, the largest town in the district, to raise an eleven able to cope with the smaller settlements in the neighbourhuod if onlv a little enthusiasm were displayed. Tho Waikato Cup Association ill-lead of keeping the game alive in the iiintrict, skeins to have had quite a contiary ellect, and there is » positive danger of tho king of game* lapsing altogether. County cricket seems to have diod a natural death, and no encouragement has been offered to visiting teams, while the above mentioned cup has caused nothing but bickerings and strife. It h devoutly wished that the mantle of ths old Ziugariclub may fall upon some of the leading citizens of Hamilton, and that we may again see the Square in good condition, and both cnunty and club matches revived. The Taupiri Club endeavoured to get a visiting team from Auckland, noping it would put fresh impetus to the game, but whether it was a dread of our frightful wickets or our doughty representatives deponent knowoth not, only that the attempt was without avail. Tho Taupiri Club will wind up the season with a dance given by the ladies on Friday, May loth., and the usual married v. single match on the following day, and with tho hopn that next season will provide us finer weather and more enthusiastic cricket, COVHRPOIN'f. Taupiri.
