Tm: Newfoundland fishermen have .itteinpted to evade the provisions of the bait laws, but tin; vigilance of the police prevented it, and a serious riot resulted. April 22. The police have arrested many fishermen trying to run the blockade with bait for French fishing vessels. "Washington, April, -1. Thu Supreme Courl has further postponed the consideration of the appeal from Canada for annulment of t.ho seizure of the Canadian schooner W. I'. Hayward, which was taken while sailing iuflie open sea in I.SSi. London. April 21. The delegates from Newfoundland will, on Thursday next, present, their petition to t.he Houso of Lords, protesting against the passing of Lord Knutsl'ord's Bill for enforcing the modus vivmidi with Franc l '.
