ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.
TAOTAOROA BOARD
The above body met at the Criterion Hotel, Cambridge, on Saturday at lla,m. Present : Messrs 11. J. Kallendar (chairman), Jas. Forrest,, H. R. Rrunskill, S. Seddon, and H. J. Tarner. The minutes of the February meeting were read and confirmed. Fixaxck.—The clerk had prepared the balance sheet for the year ending March 31st., at which time there was £124 3a 3d to the credit of the Hoard, Bridgwater Road.—The Chairman reported that, he and an engineer had inspected No 2 bridge on this road, and the latter recommended that good stout willows should be planted at the iulet and outlet of the deviation of the creek. He thought it would make a good job that would stand from five to ten years. On the opposite side of the road a long rail was required to prevent horses getting on to the rocka on a dark night.—Tho Chairman and Mr IJniuskill were authorised to get the work doue at a cost not exceeding £5 Pckktutc Road.—Mr Turner said the surfaceman had not yet done the work authorised upon this road, as he (tho surfaceman) had been employed nearly the whole month by the County Council. Accoitnt. — The only account passed for payment was £7 Is 3d to the chirk, it being one quarter's salary and oflice ex« penses for the past year. Retirixk Members.—The members who retired by rotation were Messrs Seddon. Brunskill and Turner, but ns they were the only individuals nominated at the appointed time, they were declared re-elected. Extraordinary Vacancy.—Mr Forrest said he had leased his land at Taotaoroa, and therefore did not possess tho necessary qualitication to be a member of the Hoard, consequently he should have to retire.—The members expressed their regret at losing Mr Forrest, and the clerk was instructed to take steps to fill the vacancy. This concluded the business.
CAMBRIDGE ROAD BOARD,
Tub above Board met at Hewitt's Hotel, Cambridge, on Saturday at '.'..'JO p.m. Present: Messrs H. ,1. Kallcnder (chairman), J. Forrest, 11. J. l'atou, M. Pickering and James Taylor. The minutes of the February meeting were read ami duly confirmed. The Mais Road.—Mr Forrest stated he had inspected the drain under the main road between the water trough and the Tamahere bridge, as instructed, but he had not caused anything to bo done to it as it appeared to be working well, aud ho thought would prove sulticiont for the present. Mauxgakawa Road.—The Clerk said he had applied to Mrs Thornton for half the cost of repairing tiiis road, £27 ; but when the work was undertaken Mrs Thornton had agreed to pay 115 towards the cost of it, and she now objected to the extra amount claimed. He also reported that Mr Dougherty had refunded £1 2s, which had been paid him in error for the cost of a title deed for laud taken for a road deviation through his farm. Finance.—At the end of the financial year, March 31st., the Board had a credit balance of £17 10s lid. The Watkk Trough.—Attention having heen called to the fact that the pipe that leads the water into-the drinking trough on the Hamilton Road, was broken, Mr Pickering was authorised to have iron pipes erected, aud otherwise improve the supply. Victoria Koaij.—Messrs Wattam and Crouch presented their account for gravelling this road. viz.. £99 12s. They had been paid £00 ou account. Mr Forrest said eight more loads of gravel wero required at two places he indicated ; and the contractors undertook to complete the job as requested. No 1 Station Roau.—Mr Taylor said he had been asked to point out to the Board that the drain, alongside this road near Mr Selby's, needed attention. Tho banks were breaking away and were filling up the drain.—Mr Taylor was authorised to employ the surfaceman a couple ot clays in cleansing the drain. Mr Forrest said the settlers came to the Board for every little thing that required to lie doni', when a man with a spade could often do what was required iu a couple of hours. The Board had made the drain referred to, and it had done good work, but he thought those who received the benefit of it should not begrudge doing a little towards keeping it in repair. Fdk/.l'. —The Clerk was iustructed to take proceedings against Messrs Pearse, Hamilton Road, and J. T. Norris, Halfway Road, if they did not eradicate tho furze growing on the roads near their farms. Rktikino Memdhks.—Messrs Pickering, Paton and Forrest retired by rotation, but were all rc-eleoted. Accounts. — The following accounts were passed for payment :—Wattam and Crouch, £39 12s ; H. Fitzgerald, £4 9s 9d
