Two months a,;o a man named Ralph Howarth, who left the Pukaki accommodation house in the horrors, was lost. The police made a scarcli but failed to finil him ; but a few days ago his clothcs were, found a few miles away, and on further search the body was discovered yesterday. CREYMOUTH, Last Night. A section of the Gruy-Hokitika railway has been laid oil' for the Kumara unemployed, and in a few days another section will be laid oil for the Jlokitika unemployed. The men are to be paid the Government schedule rates for earthworks. Mr McKellar, Inspector of Customs, has obtained twelve mouths' leave of absence, and he leaves Lytteltou on Saturday by the Rimutuka for England. Dunn? his absence his duties will be undertaken by Mr \V. T. Glasgow, the Collector of Customs here. WAII'AWA, Last Night. The residence of Mr Williamson, teacher in the public school at Waipawa was destroyed by fire at five o'clock this morning. Nothing was saved, the inmates Mr and Mrs Williamson escaping in their night clothes. The building was the property of the Education Hoard. The origin of the fire is unknown, but it apparently started in the kitchen. Mr Williamson's furniture was insured for £450 but he estimates his losses at £300 including a valuable library. DUNEDIN, Last Night. John Young, 19 years of age, a farm labourer, was drowned in a creek at Brighton yesterday. Dcceased.despite the warning of his fellow servants, insisted on trying to take a sensational leap over the deepest part of t he creek, and though lie landed on the opposite bank he fell backwards into ten feet of water, and being unable to swim was drowned. Clark, the absconding secretary of the Prince of Wales Lodge of Oddfellows at Port Chalmers, has been arrested iu Sydney.
