Tjiukk gentlemen have been nominated for the vacant scat on tho Hoard of Education caused by the resignation of Mr (Joldio; namely, Messrs Burton, Hearne, and Peacocke. The last named candidate is hotter lcnown as the editor of the « New Zealand Farmer," a journal entirely devoted to country interests, and from the ability with which it lms been conducted under Mr Peacocke it eiijoys probably the most extended circulation of any journal in the colony. In this connection Mr Peacocke must be thoroughly conversant with every feature of a settler's life, and all the disoomforture and disadvantages under which he labours. Such knowledge should tiuiko kim a desirable representative of country schools upon the Auckland 'Jioard of Education. Wo want men who can tako a broad view of all matters they haves to ,],,al with, and who will act in a thoroughly impartial manner in the general iutcrest of education. We believe Mr Poacocko is capable of doing so, we ure therefore strongly of opinion that the interests of the country schools may with every coniideuoo be entrusted to Mr Poacocko, aud wo feel sure he will receive u full measure of support from tho various school committees in "Wuikati, and other country districts.
