ENGLAND & CHINA.
RECOGNITION OF CHINESE CONSULAR AGENTS. (BY TELKORAVII.—I'RESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, Last Night. Tire Government has received a circular from the Imperial Government covering correspondence with the Chinese ambassador in London, who asks that the Chinese Consular agents be recognised in Her Majesty's dominions.
The Marquis of Salisbury lias replied that bis Government is prepared to grant exequaturs, but must reserve the free exercise of discretion in cases where local consideration affect the principle. The circular asks if the colonies will accede to the request and adds that it is desirable to maintain good relations with China tor commercial considerations by making concessions to the feelings of that eountrvin other matters.
