SERIOUS FIRE AT WHANGAREI.
(DY TKI.KCHAI'H — I'ItKSS ASSOCIATION".) Whangauki, Tuesday. A KKiuors fire occurred in the centre of the town this morning, when tho Courthouse and Masonic Hall were burned to the ground. The fire broke out at ',\ o'clock in the morning in the Court house, which was soon enveloped in flames ; and in a short space of time the Masonic Hall, adjoining had also caught fire, and both buildings were totally destroyed. The store and dwelling-house of Mr Wilson were in great danger, but were saved by the efforts of the people who had assembled. The cause of the outbreak is at present unknown. All the books and other property in the Court-house were destroyed. Part of this building was used as the Warden's olfice. Tim Court-house was not insured, but the Masonic Hall was protected by a policy of £400 in the Imperial office.
