Lord Kmtsi-'urd Ins intiodueed a Bill to enable the Imperial Governnient to secure a modus vivendi with regard to the Newfoundland fisheries dispute, despite tin! refusal of the local Government to consent to arbitration or give legal efi'ect to the award of the arbitrators. The measure was read a first time to-day. This mode of coercion is causing some oxciteraent in the colony. The Newfoundland liill introduced by Lord Knntsford gives naval officers supremo authority over the property ."long the coast and adjacent waters. The people of the colony arc said to be furious at, what they consider the treachery of the home authorities'. March 21. The Parliament of Newfoundland has forwarded a petition to the House of Commons, praying that the action respecting arbitration on the fisheries dispute be delayed until such time as will give the local Parliament, the opp&rtunity of expressing its views on the subject. The Opposition appear inclined to support. Sit- J. Pope Hennessy's motidu protesting against acti.-m being taken by the Imperial Government. St. John's, March 22. The Parliament of Newfoundland intends to send delegates to London to uphold the cause of the colony at the present juncture. A series of mass meetings are being arranged to protest against the Imperiid action.
