KIHIKIHI.
Ri'TßKS'CHMENT.—Considerable rezrnt lias ht-en expressed here upon the severeuce i>l Messrs Uursthnnse and BmHand's services with the Government. Jjoth t;c:uLliaiien have been engaged in this vicinity for many years past, and have, dmiut? that period, gained the esteem of ,-.l! with whom they h-ivi! uniiii! in contact. Their loss to the district will be a lonp felt one. KnilKiHl-PuNiu liKiiiui-:.—We have to remind the local authority havniß jurisdiction over this bridge of the state of the approaches thereto, and more especially to til-: bridge itself dniind tlie wet iiKinthrt of tlio year. For weeks at a time pools of w.iier \j inches or more in depth have been Iviiiß on the bridee, whicli in no way tends to improve it. It is a great pity that after so much public money has been expended in ereetiiiK thin bridge that it should now be allowed to ro ne'lectcd. If nothing iiiiinj was done beyond the borinjr of a few lobs hero and there iilons; the centre of the Inirtse, it would at least allow of the water ninniti!; o|F, and sn help t> preserve the •Aoiid. We liope that .some attention will be paid to this bridge tlurins the wet season that will .shortly lie upon us. Assksrm knt Coukt.—Captain Jackson holds a sitting of this Court to-day, but as no objections have been entered to the valuations, the business will only be of a formal nature.
