A worthy Gorman professor was invited to dine at tho house of a lady of rank in Berlin. The evening was hot, the wine cool, the professor great, nnd, while engaged in a lively conversation with his fair neighbour, the servant, uunoticed, filled his glass as often as it was emptied. When the company rose from the table, the professor realised to his great consternation that he was unsteady on his feet. Tho pair wore lying together on a pillow, and tho nurse presented them for inspection to the person nearest the door, who happened to bo tho professor. The latter gazed intently at them for a while, and then said, somewhat huskily," Really, what a bonny little child!" The latest decree of English etiquette is that beards must go.
