Sir,— My attention and that of several other of Mr Coates 1 late workmen with his threshing machine has been drawn to a local in your last issue, in which it is stated that notwithstanding that' the men earned 8s Gd per day Mr Contes has had to keep his machine idlo through want of hands caused by the scarcity of labour. This statement I emphatically deny on behalf of rayself and others, the real amount earned by the men lust season at the price stated, IL'< (id per 1000, was about .Is per day, and this unsatisfactory result has prevented nearly all his old workmen froui joining him this season, as plenty of work can be obtained in the district yielding better wages. Such statements as are continued in your local if uncontradicted ar« liiible to create» Kalsa impression and bring men into the distiict under the expectation of receiving high wages, who will bo bitterly disappointed.
