Ottawa, March G. Sir .J. Macdoxald, Sir J. D. S. Thomson, Minister of Justice, and Mr C. 11. Tapper, Minister of Marine, have been elected. Mr .T. Carting, Minister of Agriculture, was defeated at London. The Government have carried the maritime provinces by a sweeping majority. The Liberals show a nett gain of 11 in Ontario, aiul the Government have obtained a small ma jority in the province of Quebec. lit is exported that the. maritime and western provinces will secure the return of the Government, but with a reduced majority. Mr Edward Plake explains that lie retired because a commercial union with the United States meant dragging Canada, at the lieels ot' Washington. and in his opinion it would b(; better that annexation should come first.
