DISTRICT OF WAIKATO HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Tub usual monthly meeting of the abuvo Board was held in the Hamilton Borough Council Chambers at 11 a.m. yesterday. There were present : Messrs Primrose (chairman), Hc-iney, Coates, Mcl'herson, McGiiirk, Lang, Anderson, Ssddon and Chepmell. Chlouokoiim.— Dr. Mureh in reply to a letter from the Board asking him to make a reduction in his charges for administering chloroform, said that the charge of £3 'M complained of was for one day when ho was in attendance at the Hospital from 10.,'f0 a.m. to 330 p.m., and if the Board thought the charge excessive he asked then; to make what reduction they thought fit. —It was decided to pay Dr. Muruh's account in full. Examination or Nuksbs.—The secretary to the Auckland Board wrote giving information as to the course pursued by that Board in granting certificates to nuise?. The examination was formerly conducted by the Honorary Medical Staff, but since the appointment of a medical ufticer tho duty ha-; fallen mi the resident staff and two consulting surgeons who are paid £2 2s for each examination, no part of the cost being borne by the candidates. Thecortiticates issued to successful candidates are signed by the examiners, head nurse, and the Chairman of the Board, and state the length of service, and the subjects of examination. It was decided to take no action in the matter at present. Sexton.—lt wan agreed to accept Mr Sexton's offer to pay Al-iO for the treatment of his sou in the Hospital at the rate of K-J per month. Fitzgerald, asking that some assistance be givon to Mrs Mitchell, whose husband at present is in Mount I'Mon, and who herself has only lately boon discharged from the Hospital, and has 7 children to keep. Mr Anderson said the neighbouis were keeping tlu family at present, and it was decided to grant relief on receipt of a report from the police, as to the age of tho children.

Her husband hud not contributed anything towards her support for several months, and will not work, although he has been offered some in the neighbourhood. K.aulan Contribution.--The Itigl.m County Council not having paid their c-m----tribution and as the time when the subsidy will be paid will expire on the 81st inst., Cant. McPliersnu moved that immediate logii! proceedings be taken against tho Council. Seconded by Mr Seddon. Mr McGuirk moved us an amendment. Unit instead of legal proceedings being instituted u telegram granting two days' grace be sent. Seconded by Mr Ling. On the Hinendmeut being put tha voting was, for :— Messrs MeCJuirk, Lang, Coatus, and Anderson, against :■—Oapt. McPliersnn and Messrs Primrose, Seddon, nnd Chepmell. The voting being even the Chairman gave his casting vote against the amendment. The original motion on being put was carried unanimously. Doctor's Report.—The doctor's monthly report was received. Contributions for LBOI-ll2.—The usual formal resolutions providing tho various contributions to bq levied on each contributing local body in tho Hospital district were passed, the amounts being : -Piako, £131 o\s; Waikato, Jb'3o7; Wuipa, JWiU 3s; Raglau, £!W; Hamilton, £(»5 Is; Cambridge, t'47 10s, uialdiiK the total amount up to £1303, which, with the a for & subsidy will make up tho £%\0 estimated to bo required. Payment of the contributions aro duo on April 11th, IS'JI. The Chairman pointed out that tho Act under which the £ for fi subsidy is paid expires on the Ist of October, and all payments must be made before that date, so as to allow of the subsidy beiug received from the f Juvernuiunts.

Imi'UOVK.uents.—The Chairman rupurtcd that the hut water supply is imw in hand, us is also the painting of the Hospital, and they will probably bo finished before next meeting. The hot water supply would cost slightly over the K(!0 granted by thu B.iard, owing to there being the necessity of erecting two new tanks to supply the water, tho present tunics being too low. Rki.iei".—The usual outdoor relief was ordered to be administered until the next meeting of tho Board. Additions, —Mr T. H. White, in accordaiioa with instructions received, laid the plans and specifications on the table for the additions to the Hospital buildings, which will consist of two wards, with passage between. I'.'ift x 20" ft, to contain six beds each, an isolated ward i.'OR x IGffc, to hold two beds for serious accidenc cases which require complete quiet, a corridor Git wido, joining the addition to tho old part, and a dining room JJOft x 10ft. The design will bo very similar tn that of t he buildings at present erected and there will be a veraudnh round three and a-half sides. Mr Chuplr.oll moved that tho coiHiderali'in of the phuis for the now building bo deferred to n-jxt mooting. Seconded by Cr. Seddon and carried unanimously.
