COACH ACCIDENT.

An accident, which might have terminated fatally, happened to ono of Mr W. K. Carter's coaches on the way from Kotorua to O.;ford on Friday last, just before the atables in the bush between the two above mentioned places wero reached. The coach, which was a four horse one, had six pas.sßugors, and was driven by an exceedingly good whip named Smith. Just before reaching tho stables in the bush tho coach capsi/.ed on :i aiding, thu top being broken iu by a fallen tree, :>:;ainst which it fall. One of the passengers, a Mr Campbell of London, who was returning from a trip to Kotorua, was sitting on the box and was jammed by ona of the branches of the tree pressing against his stomach. Luckily one of the horses in the ooach fell, thus preventing the coach moving forward, or mo-t certainly Mr Campbell would have been disembowelled. The limb was pressing against him vitli such force that the cushion of the se it had to be draeued from under him before he could be got out from his dangerous position. Another one of the passengers who was inside the coach, had In.s trousers torn from his thigh to his knee. The passengers were kindly taken on to Okoroiro by Mr Crosby, whose coach passed shortly after the accident, and the luggage was brought on by one of Mr Carter's coaches, which was .sent out from Oxford on the news of tho accident reaching there. The roads are in a very bad state owing to the exceedingly heavy rains that, havn fallen lately.
