HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tiik usual monthly meeting of tho Hamilton IJ-irougl) Council was held in thu Council Chamber; on Tuesday evening. Thore were present: Crs. Dey, Slade, Bell, Wood aud I'arr. His Worship the Mayor wrote apologising for his absence, as he was called away on urgent business. Leave of absence was granted. On the motion of Cr I'arr seconded by Cr Wojd, Cr Dey was voted to the chair.
TuANSii:u.—Mr 1.. Cussen wiote asking the Council lo transfer lots XV) and -Pi Borough endowment, leased by him, to Mr C. Hur.vooiJ, who is to pay the current years rent and hold the lease under the same conditions. The request was granted. SAi.r.v.Mii.s.—Mcs.srs Mexico! and Co. wrote stating that they did not think it would be wise r.o alter the sales to fortnightly ones hold alternately uy Mr Hunter -ii'i themselves, as this would give two small sales with a small attendance each month instead of one good sale They did not think that thore was any necessity for any increased accommodation at present, and were it needed it could be alfurded bv dividing Mie large pens — The letter w.,s received.
Hand 1 xstkcmkxts. —The committee appointed to take over the band instruments from the Hamilton Light. Jufantry and deal with them, reported that they had received the instruments in good order with the exception of one tenor horn which was burnt and one picolo which was missing. The former whs signed for as unplayable and the picolo will bo replaced by tho volunteers. This offer was accepted. The clerk wrote to Mr H. J5. Tristram asking him to appoint two sureties to be approved of by the Council for the care of the instiuments. Mr Tristram wrote forwarding the names of Mr A. W. Schultze and Mr W. McCullough as sureties for the instruments. O. Dell moved that these gentlemen be accepted as sureties. Seconded by Or. Slade. Or. Fair supported the resolution and said that he hoped tho band would continue to discourse music on future evenings. (Jr. Wood spoke to the same effect. Fohkmax oi' Wouics.—The Foreman of Works reported that during the month the water-tables and footpaths had been cleaned out, and 00 feet of curbing renewed in Grey-street, a culvert renewed across the road in Firth-street with (Jin. pipes, and the water-tables cleaned out and reforming done in Thackcry-street. He pointed out that tlio following works required to lie done at the earliest convenience : Gravelling footpaths in Victoria-street and the road from tho bridge to o. I'liter's Church, reforming the road from Harwoods (ab iut 10 chains), the cemetery drain cleaned on , that Mr Klliott be requested to clear t.h> furze in front of his property in Victorn street, that Cook and Wellington street* and the Cambridge road be reformed, th. public drain cleaned oul ; cleaning UKpiping across the end of Wellington-street, ami rouudiug up the crown of the road from the comity biidge to the boundary.—The consideration of the report was held over till next meeting.
