THE CAMBRIDGE HORSE STEALING CASE.
■—» ■ ■ ■ CrKOiitii) PviiK was brought up at 1.45 p.m. yesterday at Cambridge, before Messrs T. Wells and .1". H, Priestly J.P*., oharged with stoaling a dark brown pony from Michael Dillon of Cambridge West. Michael Dillon deposed that on December 2nd ho missed the pony, and did not nee it again until the 10th December, when it was in the possession of the police at Cambridge, ltd main, tail and forelock had been cut.
Frank Pearce deposed that on December 2nd accused passed him on thfl CambridgeTaupo rodo. When he questioned accused about the horse he was riding, lie immediately rodo on. James Hebberly, postmaster at Taravera—between Taupo and Napier—saw accused riding the pony ; lie stopped him and was evaming the limse, when accused dug his spurs into the animal and i'"d? olf rapidly. Charles l>ill deposed Lo thirling the hoiso knocked u)), a littlo distance beyond Tarawara. Constable Brenuau also cave evidence. Accused refused to make any statement and was committed for trial at the Supreme Court.
