HUNTLY.
Poit the double purpose of alleviating ono of the most deserving cases of family disCross resulting from tho Into accident horo, and of affording some of our self-made Santloys an opportunity of discovering a little of that local taicut for which they have been in tho past so famous ? a concert was held hero on Wednesday evening last aud proved a success financially, though the most non-exacting can hardly say musically, in stiict accordance with past rule the performance commenced with the 41 liarnt cork business," but the conundrums, puns, gags, etc. were really stale and too often far fetched. However the stylo of entertainment patronised by a community is a very fair indication of the powers of appreciation of sucli community, and that items such as wero rendered by tho " cullod folks'" on Wednesday night should be applauded to the echo displays a nomowhat low musical to say the least. But the performers did their best and did it with a will, aud it must not bo forgotten that charity C ivers a multitude of sins either venial or musical. Tho soloß given by the two young lady amateurs of Nuannwahia wero the most pleasing items of the evening aud proved that tlioy possens clear and sweet voices. The proceedings terminated with a farco, which produced roars of lauchter and sent the audience home smiling. A very pleasant danco was indulged in by some of the younger folks but tho temperature was such that dancing savored more of hard work than pleasure. 1 A soiree and concert in aid of the Church Building Fund is spoken of and likely to to come off at au early date, and it is sincerely to be hoped that before long we nhall havo a Church worthy of the place, aud when we have got it we shall be worthy to worship in it.
