OHINEMURI.
Racing.—The Ohinemuri Jockey Club Committee met on Saturday last, and decided to adopt the following programme for St. Patrick's Day :—Maiden Plate, £10 ; Hurdles, £2"i; Cup, £35; Maori Tlace, £">; Publicans' Purse, £15 ; Hack Hurdles, £7; and Consolation, £S ; a total amount of one hundred guineas. Messrs N. Dickey, W. G Nicholls, W. Hollis, and G. McDonald were elected stewards ; Mr J. K Shaw, clerk of scales; C. Shaw, clerk of course; D. Snodgrass, Judge; J. M. Coote, ttarter; and the committee and whom they may appoint handicappers (exclusive of horse owners). Accident.—Ralph Pennell, a young lad, was riding in from Owharoa to fetch Dr Cooper to his dying mother, when he wae thrown violently from his horse and received severe injuries, being much cut about the body and limbs. He is progressing favourably. This is the third horse accident within a fortnight. Mining.— The Waibi Goldmming Com pany shipped a large consignment of valuable bullion to Auckland last week. These consignments are now being legnlarly made every month and appears to be, profitable as they are, only a promise of what is to be. The company is calling for tenders for no less than ten mile 3 of a water race-a gigantic work, and this is regarded as a sure si<*n that the new plant is to be erected at Waitekauri Junction. The Waihi plains are rapidly being taken up for settlement. Mr Dempston, of the Casaell Gold Extraction Company, left for Denver, Cnl., U.S.A., on Saturday, where he is to superintend the erection of a plant similar to that at Karangahake. Mr Melville, one of the Glasgow directors, is expected at Karangahako shortly, and arrangements will then be made for the immediate erection of the large plant on the flat, the contract for which has already been let. This plant will cost over £2000.
