Tin: f >1 lowing it the cnncludiiiff portion »f our roport of, the last ordinary meeting of the above Cminci 1 , bold on Thursday last, and which wn were compelled to hold over from our lout Ksuo : • Tub W.mohoniiomai Ikamwat.—Mr H. Gilfiilan, attorney for the Te Arohn Gold und Silver Mining Company, wrote on January 7th " I understand from Mr Adams (to whom the company has sold their interest in tho Te Aioha tramway) tii.it Messrs Emmett and Ferguson have both been attended tn ;is regards their wants. With refer"iu:e to your apparent requirements ot tools, lepairs, itc., 1 have been in communication with Mr Adums on the subject of this road, and ha has undertaken to confer with tho Council thereon, with a view to arranging the same." —Messrs Ilesketh and Richmond wrote on the name question on January (»th : — "Wo are instructed by mil' clionts, Mr Jns. M. Clark, oiih of the original lessees under, and Mr Arch. Clark, surety for the lessees in connection with the lease of the above tramway from your Council to Messis Firth ana Clark, to.address you with a view to their being released from thnir liabilities under the lease and bond. Tho tramways and plant have recently been sold by the lo Aroha Cold and Silver Mining Company, Limited, who purchased from Messrs Firth and Clark, and our clients understand that Hie present purchaser is prepared to lind new sureties for the payment of rent and performance of tho conditions of tho lease. Under these, circumstances, ; our clients feel justified in requesting the C!r unci! to release them from all future liability in conncction with a concern in which they havo no beneficial interest and over which they have no control; Application will probably be made for the Council's consent to the assignment to the present purchaser, and we would ask that iu dealing with such application, regard may be had for our clients' unsatisfactory position, and such assistance as tho Council can afford may be given in the direction of requiring new sureties and releasing Messrs Clark. We have little doubt but that the present purchaser can submit satisfactory sureties, and this being so, we trust that the Council will see its way to relieve our clients from tho anomalous position of being guarantors for a person in whom they have no interest. We nebd not of course point out that by his bankruptcy Mr Firth has already been discharged' from all responsibility, and this forms anothsi reason for our.clients'anxiety to bo released. — Cr. > Hamner said Mr Adams, (who he had heard had taken over tho tramway) wished to interview the Council with reference to the repairs required to bo done to the tramway.—The Chairman said they could hear Mr Adams as a matter of courtesy, but they could not do anything regarding his leasing the tramway, as such an application as that would have to be in writing,' and should como from the present lessees; besides, he should rnlo that such an application would be extraordinary business and therefore it could not bo dealt with at that meeting. The (loldfields Warden would also havoi to be a partv to the transfer.—lt was then resolved : That Mr t.ilfillan te informed m reply to his letter of the 7th instant, that the Council has no knowledge of Mr Adams in the matter, but of course .still look to the lessees to carry out the conditions of the lease ; and that Messrs Hesketh and Richmond be informed that no application has been received from the present lessees for a transfer of the lease, and therefore tho Council is not in a position to deal with the request contained in their letter of the titli instant.—Mr Adams wph then heard, and it appeared lie had signed a lease fro:n the Company and was under the impression they had appJwsd for u transfer. Upon his being told sucn was not the case, he immediately retired, and the next business was proceeded with.
