WAIKATO COUNTY COUNCIL

TIIEItE was not a quorum at the meeting of the Waikato Conntv County Council on Friday, only Crs, Primn>e, chairman, Johnston, and Coatos being present. It was decided however to deal with tenders dee at the meeting and accept them subject to the approval of the Council. For contract No 33, the erection of two bridges, on the Chuichill-Rangiriri road and one at Meremere, the following tenders were received : A. Douglas, Rangiriri, £29 12s, Meremere, £0S 15s ; F. Hubbard, Rangiriri, £20 12s (id, Meremere, £58 10s ; J. Heathcote, Rangiriri, £28, Meremere, £G5 ; R. Mdville, Raßainri, £2G Gs, Meremere, £62 13s 4d ; A, Nicol, £94 lis 2d for the two. Cr. Coates moved that Mr L'\ Hubbard's tender beV accepted. Seconded by Cr. Johnston and carried. For No. 32, gravelling on tho Great South road south of Hunlly, two tenders were received, viz., »R. Mair 2s 9d per yard and T. Clarkin 2s per yard provided that he would not have to pay for the gravel. The Engineer said that gravel could not be got near Huntly saitable for the work, and he thought that it would be better to wait and see if good gravel could be got from across the river, bringing it over in barges. The matter was deferred till next meeting. A number of accounts, amounting to £241 3s lOd, were ordered to be paid, subject to the approval of the Council. The Engineer stated that the contractors for the Matahura bridge had almost completed their work, but at present no work had been done in fencing the road through Messrs Hill's property, and he asked whother he should declare tho road open, or should keep it closed until tho fence was erected. The Engineer was instructed not to open tho road until the fence was properly completed, and the Clerk was instructed to write to the settlers on this matter. Tha Clerk reported that the various riding accounts stood as follows:—In credit, Rangiriri, £224 Os 3d ; Kirikiriroa, £42 3s 4d ; Tamahers, £32 12s Hid ; Cambridge, £39 9s 3d; and in debt the Agricultural College and Model Farm account, £108 3s sd.
