The Waikato Times AND THAMES VALLEY GAZETTE. Equal and excat Justice to all men, Of whatsoever state or persuasion, religious or political. SATURDAY, JAN. 24, 1891.

I'aui.iamknt mot for the despatch o£ business yesterday. Tlio calling of ti 10 members together earlier in the roar than usual, has been in some measure forced upon Ministers from the unniis'akeabio decision at the lace election, that the Government, as at that time constituted, had not the confidence of the country. Ihe forecasts, from Wellington for some days past have not apparently boon the surmises and conjectures ot' correspondents, Means liavo been found to afford sufficient information to prepare the public mind for certain important changes. The report of what transpired yesterday now eonlirms much that the public were, asked to look forward to. Sir Harry Atkinson has resigned and has bsen appointed to the Speakership of the Upper Chamber. Sii Harry Atkinson as Premier has resigned and the Ministry now no longer exists. Mr Hallance, the recognised leader of the Opposition, has been asked to form a Ministry, and to give him time to consult his party the House has been adjourned till .Luesday. Whatever party may be in power let us trust that the general improvement that is felt to bo gradually taking place in all branches of trade throughout the colony, and the restored'confidence, of our credit in England may not be re rarded by any attempt at class or faddy legislation. Political rest is what New Zealand needs. Lot us hope that the members of the present House of Representatives will recognise this important matter, and in this iirst session of the eleventh Parliament prove etjual to the important trust the country has reposed in them.
