Jiefcrring to the proposals submitted at the H;iwsrd»n interview, lie considered r.ii mi distinctly worse than the provisions in tlie Bill introduced by Mr Gladstone, in l-Jiiti. for the future government of belaud, Mr Parnell stated he was willing to retire, if assured his opponent* would promise four points, viz. -(1) A charier for the se'th m ait of the land, or power to the people to s-cltle themselves; !-) power to secure the interests of lnbomer.s and artisans; control of the Irish police; (4) to concede the appointment of judges and magistrates in Invalid.
