Thk usual monthly meeting of tho Hamilton Borough Council was hold in the Council Chambers at S p.m. on Tuesday. There were present, Crs. I)ey, R id. Bell, Slade, Wood and .Jones-.—The Clerk apologised for the absence of the M iyor, who had been called away on urgent business to Te Aroha. Cr. Bill nioied that in the absence of His Worship Or. "To the .Mayor an i Councillors, ].! trough of Hamilton,--Gentlemen : On the 18'.h November, 1«I0, 1 had the h.niour to .. rite to you re the use of tile band instruments now in possession of the council. 1. have now the honour to request that you will let me have a definite reply as to whether we can have the instruments or not. as the delay is greatly inconveniencing our band, and 'prevcMitina: us from making other arrangements for the t.upply of instruments. In support of our request 1 have to state that the instruments have not been used for the last three or four months, and there appears to be no probability of another band being formed, whilst onr band is in a complete state of organisation, and with the use of the instruments now asked for wo shall be ablo to form a band second to none in the provincial district. R id said that he had made arrangements for the appointment of a but as there seemed to be such urgent need for them, ho would take upon himself to hand over the in. truments to tho Council forthwith. With reference to the statement in the letter that the instruments had not been in use for tliiee or four months, ho said that was untrue, as they had been in use up to last night. One of the instruments, a picolo,, had been lost, and a horn had been burnt when the late bandmaster s hnuso was burned. These instruments would either be paid for or replaced.—Or. Jones moved That Ors. f)ey, Reid, and Be'l be a com uittce to receive the instruments, and m die an ingemen's with the lew band, with power to act."—Seconded OyCr. Wood, pro form O. Cell asked to whom the instruments would be hanJed over, and in reply, it was >tated that tliev would be handed over to the Secretary, H. E. Tristram.--The motion was then put and carried. Works Kepout.—ln his report the 1< oreman of Works gave a list of the works done during the past month, and those requiring to be dune. He requested that he be supplied with tools to carry on his work. The repirt was received and adopted. Akglesea Drain.—The Foreman of Works stated that he had inspected the drain, and there was no doubt that it requires cleaning, protecting, and widening. Ho thought that the work might stand for another six weeks, whon it would bo time to decide as to what should be done. The work could bo dono in many ways, costing from -Is to IRs per chain, but the best way would bo to do it in a thorough way,—Cr. Wood differed with the way in which the foreman of works suggested it should be done, and ventured to say that the drain could be put in order and kept in repair for twelve months for £2.—ln accordance with the foreman of works report, this in itt-r was deferred fill next meeting.
