Tim usual monthly meeting of tiioWaipa County Couuc.i! was held at the Council Oil.millers. Oliaupo, at 11. a.m. on Tue-idiiy. There ra : c present: Ors. Lang (chairman), Anderson, Kusabs, Exelby, Shepherd and Teasdale. . KnGINHKU's liKl'OUT.—ln his monthly report tho engineer stated that the followinci works had been completed, forming and sanding poitiona of the AfexandiaTe Roro road, and tho Paterangi-Ohaupo road, and grading a portion of the Alexandra Paterangi road. Tlio sanding of a portion of the Tuhikaramea roud is now in hand, the formation having heen completed some time ago. For the clearing and foiming a portion o£ the Whata-whata-Tuhikaramea road 110 offer was made at the specified time, tint subsequently a tender was received from Mr li. Rice as follows Cleaiiug and funning, 3s 3d per chain ; cotting outfall drains, 3s per chain : and carting and laying pipes, los per set. Th.s tender being a reasonable one it was accepted. The work_ of lifting pipes and lowering same at McNicol s boundary has been completed. A. box for Mr Princes approach had been ordered and w uld be completed in a. low days. With Cr, Anderson ho inspected the Cainbridge-Kilnkihi road, about 20 chains of which near Monavule will require to be m ide and sanded and three sets of 'J inch pipes will also be required. Mr K. B. Walker hus kindly consented, as he has always done, to j-ive the gravel for this work free, it was thought better to defer the work until after harvest. With reference to the complaint. of Messrs Friar and Da* ies re tlie--witor standing on tho road in front of thoir premises at Ngaruawahia ho stated tliat he found tho water was confined, to a great extent, by tli3 roots of a row of trees about ten feet from the kerb, thus forming a second water-table outside the proper ono. To meet the case, the road would require to be re-formea and gravelled, the new road being kept high to remove the outride channel. lnero are several bad pieces on the Uliaupo-To Aw imutn road which requiie repairing, and , ( ho it 25 chains of the Kihikihi-Cambridge road should be re-formod.—The clerk was instructed to write to Mr E. B. Walker, thanking him for allowing gravel to he taken from his property.—Cr. Shepherd moved that the work, as suggested by the engineer, be carried out at Ngaruawahia. He said that very little money was spent in Ngarnawahia for the amount of rates collected there.--Cr. Teasdale thought that the Council should have the trees removed, or if they wete not removed the Town Board should have to keep the water-tables clean, but the surface of the road should not bo disturbed. —The Chairman said that only a certain amount was voted for each riding, and care should bo taken to spend that on the most necessary works. He thought that while the Ngaruawalna people had good roads they ought to be moro benefited by tho money being spent on the roads approaching tho township.—The Lngmoer said that unless the trees were cut down, the nuisance would ho likely to occur again. During tho time he had been employed by the Council he had paid monthly visits to Ngaruawahia, but ho had never seen any water lying in this spot, and tho road through the town-hip was a good one. If the question of tho must necessary work were to bo taken into consideration, tiie rouu from Ngaruawahia to Stone's cornor was almost in a state of nature, and any money the riding had to expend inighi be well spent there. Thero being no seconder to Cr. Shepherd's motion it fell through.—Cr. Teasdale moved that tho works referred to in the Engineer's report on the Ohaupo, lo Awairiutu, and thn Kihikihi-Cambrldgo road bo carried out.—Seconded by Cr. Anderson, and carried. The action of the Engineer and Cr. Shepherd, in accepting li. Rice's tender, was conlirmed. Whatawiiata Road.—Cr. Shepherd drew attention to the state of tho small side drains along tho Whatawiiata Swamp road. He said that tho outfall dram was m splendid order, but the side drains reqiored cleaning out, so as to allow the water to get to tho outfall. The engineer was instructed to meet Cr. Shepherd, and inspect this road, bringing up a report at next ni.' jting. Cnossi.vG.--Mr W. Willoiißtiby \m>ce stating that lie required a crossing over tho dram through his property, carrying the water off the Ohatipo-Cainbridge road. _ He said that if the Council supplied tho pipes he would do the necessary work hansel!. The matter was referred to the engineer to report oil at next meeting. Compensation.—-Mr A. Crawford, on behalf of Mohi To Rongimau and other natives, ownorsof asectionoflandat Whatawhat i, wrote, stating that the road from Ngaruawahia to What.«whata had, without their authority, been taken through their property, cutting off about ail acre, and rendering it valueless, and that unless tha Council talcn some steps to compensate them they will sue for trespass. Cr. Shepherd said that full information oil this matter could be got from the Newcastle Road Board by whom he thought tho land had been taken under the Public Works Act. It was likely, he said, a caso of an attempt to get compensation which was cot justified. The matter was left in Cr. Shepherd's hands to get information and report at next meeting; Culveht.— On the request of Cr. Kusabs it was decided to make an approach to the Ohaupo cemetery. OiisTIIUCXION. —Cr. Anderson asked if permission had beon granted to the schoolmaster at Ohaupo, in making an approach to his house to iill up the watertable with earth, which would stop tho flow of the water. The permission not having oue.n granted, the engineer was instructed to make arrangements to have tho obstruction cleared away, or (ret pipes put in.
Wokks.—(Jr. Jixolby reported that a lot of furze was growing on the Ngaruawahia n i,kl near O'Brien's and opposite Bacrescnuit, that at Willoughby's bridge the wa>er had cut a channel down the centre of the road, and that several parts of this road required reforming in the centre, also that one stringer at the No. 2 bridge was gone, and some of the planking required to be replaced. The engineer said the works mentioned were necessary ones, and it was decided to get them done.
