FIGHTING AT PINE RIDGE
(IIV KLKCTKIU TF.I.KCItAI'H.— COPYRIGHT.) Washington-, January 4. The Indians have been reinforced, and are entrenched, but 10,010 troops surround them. It is openly alleged that treachery prevents the acceptance of their surrender, and that it is intended to use the opportunity to exterminate them. The press is horrituid ac tho revelation. Tho Indians will not listen to suggestions of peace, and continue their raids. Troopers are continually encircling them, and a battle is imminent. The massacre of squaws and children At Pine Ridge is continued. The soldier? allege the smoke prevented them from distinguishing the men from the women. January G. It is reported that a battle is raging at Pine .Ridge, with disastrous results to the American troops.
