SCHOOL CONCERT AT CAMBRIDGE.

A conokht in aid of the Cambridge l'-<ast School funds was given in the Public Hall, Cambridge. 011 Wednesday lust, and, as far as the performance was concerned, it was a decided success, but tho attendance wa> voiy inoagre, and we are afraid the committee will not lie troubled with a superabundance of cash when all expenses have been paid. The school childten furnished four itoms of tho programme, to'W ouviiu been trained very nicely by the Aliases Unli and Brown. The action song of the infantwas particularly Rood, and judging by their merry l'aees they seemed to enjoy it ano considered it great fun; evidently tlim have not yet reached the nervous r.ge. ilie older ones seemed to feel the responsibility of appearing in public, but they nevertheless acquitted themselves well. The billowing was the programme: Piano duet, " Kairy Queen, 1 ' Misses Archer; song, "Tell Her I Lovo Her so," Mr Gilmer; action song, infants; song, •'White Wing*," Mis Cliitty; quartette, " Hush Thee my Bahy," Misses Chambers and Bell, and Messrs Gilmer and Chambors ; reading, " Sam S!ick 011 Talking Latin," Mr H. C. Dyer ; song, " At the Perry," Miss A. Evans ; chorus, children ; duet, "Flow on Thou Shining River," Miss Bell and Mr Puckey: chorus, children ; song, " The Fisherman and His Child," Mrs C. Hunter; voilincello solo, "La Rave," Mr Puckey; recitation, "British Pluck,' 1 Rev. C. H. Garland; quartette, " Seo Our Oars,' Mioses Chambers and Bell, and Messrs Puckey and Chambers; song, "Ora Pro Nobis" Mr Gilmer; chorus children; song, Hie Bridge," Miss A. Evans ; duet, " Oh, That Wo Two Were Maying," Miss Chambers and Mr Gilmer. Tho National Anthem was sung, after the usual votes of thauks, Ac., had been accorded the performers, and the hall was then cleared for tho dance, at which, however, thore wero only a very fow present. Tho only item that was encored was tho 'cello solo by Mr Puckey, but most of the performers wero vociferously applauded. Mr Puckey dolighted the audience with tho sweet tunes 110 drew from his instrument; the piauo accompaniment was ably played by Miss Whewell. CaniOridge has lately received an acquisition in the musical line by the Misses Archer residing in tho town. Thoy played their dust in a masterly manner, true to tiaio and with a delicacy of touch that stumpß them musicians of no mean order. Miss Archer, who played the treble, executes in a manner that shows she has been well trained, ergo she is competent to impart the knowledge to others, Of tlio solo vocalists Mrs C. Hunter and Mr Gilmer found most favour with tho audienco. We regret to find that Cambridge audiences havo yet to learn the art of keeping silont, when singing or playing is going on. Of course wo naturally expect children to make a litHe noise, but we wore not prepared to find a member of the school comm.ttee intontlv listening m an individual who waß t dicing whilo Mr Puckoy was playing, us was tho case 011 Wednesday evening. A word to the wise is (uot) sufficient.
