ST. MARY'S SCHOOL, HAMILTON.

Ykstkhiiat afternoon a considerable number of the parents and friends of the children attending the above school assembled in the fine large school room, for the annual prize-giving, and concert by the pupils. The walls were enlivened by tho exhibits of needlework and painting, executed during the year by the pupils. These were a very fine collection, and reflected greaft credit on the scholars, as well as the teachers, some of the work being by children, ot very tender years. Before the prizes were distributed, an entertainment consisting of vocal and instrumental selections and recitations, and concluding with adrama,which was given in a very creditable manner, the young performers acquiring themselves very well. Throughout Miss Mcllhone was very good, and in the drama showed no mean powers of histrionic art. This yming lady sang very nicely in the duet with Miss Murphy. Several instrumental piecss were given, in which the execution nf the fair pianistes was excellent. Master K. Mcdarrigle was very good in his recitation of the various ills with which he was afflicted. The young ladies taking part in the drama wero:—Miss E. Reid, A. Dunn, A. Murphy, E. Mcllhone, McGarrigle, J. Forbes, Chitty, and E. McGarrigle. On the conclusion of the drama, Father O'Gara presented the prizes to the various successful pupils, addressing a few appropriate words to each. Subjoined is the list of awards : —

Father O'Gara, in a short aidress then thanked the children fur the entertamment they had given, and said that he hoped they would all come back nppiin and work with renewed vigour after the holidays, and be able tn >?ive another entertainment next year. Ho cmiuludeil by wishing then, all " A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year." The assemblage then broke up, many, howevei, staying to inspect the exhibition of fancy work, which was universally admired.
